A Special Super Bowl Pizza Showdown: Philly Cheesesteak Vs. Clam Chowder Pizza

Two Super Bowl Pizza Recipes

In preparation for Super Bowl 2018 we cooked up two rival pizzas to go head to head in a Super Bowl Pizza Showdown. On the game day menu, we have created two pizzas that epitomize the iconic food from each state. A Philly Cheesesteak Pizza representing the Eagles vs. a Clam Chowder Pizza representing the Patriots.

As we all know, the Super Bowl has three main events. The food, the friends, and the football. For some of us, food is the most important part of that equation. That is why we have decided to make two easy super bowl pizza recipes that will both live up to the super bowl hype and hunger, as well as support your favorite team.

Here at Pizzacraft we already have predicted the winner of the Super Bowl. The winner is pizza and while I did like the Philly Cheese Steak Pie the most… my taste buds may not be the best indicator of the actual Super Bowl results.

So I urge you to make both these pies on game day and decide for yourself what super bowl pizza special is your favorite. You can make them yourself at home in the Pizzeria Pronto Pizza Oven or in your conventional oven on Pizzacraft Baking Steel. After all, if you dislike one team or the other, you get to enjoy taking a bite out of them even if it’s not on the field.

Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of milk
  • ¼ cup of shredded sharp cheddar
  • ¼ cup of cubed Velveeta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 yellow onion julienned
  • 2 bell peppers julienned
  • ½ teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • ¼ lbs of thinly sliced steak

Add butter to a sauce pot and heat over medium until the butter has melted. Add the flour to the butter and whisk to combine. Keep stirring the mixture for 1 minutes making sure the flour doesn’t brown. Pour in the milk a third at a time while continually whisking and making sure to allow the mixture to come to a boil before adding more milk. Add the cheese to the milk and whisk until you can no longer see pieces of cheese.

Sauté the bell peppers and onion until tender and season with salt and black pepper. Finish the vegetables with the red wine vinegar.

To assemble the Super Bowl Pizza; stretch your dough until it reaches its desired size. Add the cheese sauce to the dough. Add the steak to the dough making sure pieces do not overlap. Sprinkle the top with the onion and pepper mixture and bake and bake for about 5min the Pizzeria Pronto Pizza Oven.

Clam Chowder Pizza

  • 1 red potato sliced thin
  • ½ yellow onion sliced thin
  • 2 slices of bacon cut into lardons
  • 1 stalk of celery sliced thin
  • ¼ cup of chopped clam meat
  • heavy cream
  • low moisture mozzarella

Over high heat bring a sauce pot to a boil and add bacon. Cook for 45 seconds then remove pieces from the water. Add salt to the water and then add the potato slices to the water and cook until tender. Strain the water and place potatoes on a plate to cool.

Stretch your pizza dough until it becomes your desired size. Add cream to the top of the dough a couple tablespoons at a time until it covers the top but isn’t soupy. Places pieces of potatoes down followed by a sprinkling of mozzarella. Place onions, celery, bacon, and clams evenly over the top of the pizza and bake for about 5min the Pizzeria Pronto Pizza Oven.
